Notes
I started a few paintings on this theme, the dandelion
being the first of the flowers to show up in early spring, and
there being no guaranties as to how long they would last on
the Normandy roadsides. I finalized about ten dandelion paintings
to prepare for a "green" show at Montjavoult. I
considered it an act of political malice to put into painting
such a miserable weed.
This particular painting allowed me
to experiment with vermicular brush strokes to depict the grass
background, and culminated in a pattern that I could well fathom
displayed on the uniform of a British clown.
Some friends see here a step toward the abstract. The obsession with the French,
is that a serious artist must one day become (and end) as an
abstractionist!
